Overview
Care is identical to standard Kedagang: glue or tie the rhizome to hardscape, keep the rhizome out of the substrate, and give it low to medium light. It is happiest shaded, where the slow-growing leaves stay ahead of algae; CO2 and liquid fertilizer are optional but bring out the metallic sheen and a faster leaf count. Stable water matters more than rich water, since swings in pH or temperature trigger melt. Divide the rhizome to propagate.
In the wild
A trade selection within the Kedagang group of Bucephalandra, so the wild context is the parent's: the Kedagang area of Kalimantan on Borneo, where these rheophytes grip rock and wood in fast, soft-water streams, emersed on the banks in the dry season and fully submersed when the water rises. Round itself is farmed trade stock rather than a distinct wild population.
Good to know
Bucephalandra names are collector shorthand, not botany, and Kedagang is one of the busiest labels: shops carry Kedagang, Kedagang Mini, Kedagang Round, Mini Round and red forms under the same banner. Round is the selection with a softer, more rounded leaf edge while keeping the group's slender dark green blade, fine pale dots and blue metallic sheen in submersed growth. Like the rest of the genus, in the family Araceae, tribe Schismatoglottideae, it is often grouped with Bucephalandra motleyana.
Did you know
Round is told apart from its siblings by leaf edge alone. The same dark, blue-sheened Kedagang colors with a softer, more rounded margin is the entire difference, and shops sell both forms side by side.
