Origin
A dwarf cultivated selection of Anubias nana, whose parent species grow attached to wood and rock in the streams of West and Central Africa.

Overview

Glue or tie it to small stones or wood and keep the rhizome exposed so it does not rot. It is undemanding, growing in low light with no CO2, though a little added light and nutrients speed up its slow pace. The small, colored dwarf forms are slightly more delicate than standard anubias, so stable water helps.

In the wild

Anubias 'Micro' is one of the smallest anubias forms, sitting below the popular Petite in size with leaves under a centimeter and a half. It shares the same tough, dark green look as its nana parent but on a miniature scale. That makes it a favorite for nano aquascapes and fine detail on hardscape.

Good to know

Anubias grow from a horizontal rhizome that stores energy and needs to sit above the substrate. Dwarf selections like Micro keep both the rhizome and leaves tiny while behaving like their full sized parent in every other way.

Did you know

Like all anubias its leaves are tough and bitter, so plant eating fish and crayfish that shred softer plants usually leave it alone.
