Overview
Sintang Green is a small-leaved form with oblong bright green leaves that show a subtle metallic sheen under LED light. Fix the rhizome to driftwood or stone and keep it uncovered to avoid rot. It grows slowly and thrives in low to medium light without CO2, though CO2 and good flow speed it up and keep algae off the leaves.
In the wild
'Sintang' is named for the Sintang district of West Kalimantan on Borneo, where it was collected from rocky, fast-flowing forest streams. Like the rest of the genus it grows as a rheophyte, gripping stone with its rhizome rather than rooting in substrate.
Good to know
This is a locality-named trade form rather than a formally described species, so it keeps the 'Sintang' collection name. Bucephalandra is an aroid genus (Araceae) endemic to Borneo, and hobby forms are routinely named after the river or region where they were first gathered.
Did you know
The 'IC106' tag often seen on Sintang stock is a tissue-culture lab code, a reminder that most Bucephalandra in the trade today is lab-propagated to protect the slow-growing wild populations in Borneo.
