Overview

Platinum is the white form: a pale silver-white body, faint banding along the back, and the two flank spots gone. Tone varies between suppliers from chalky white to a clear silver sheen. It shows up in fewer stores than gold or opaline, and shops sometimes list a platinum lavender beside it as its own item.

In the wild

The platinum line was bred in captivity from the same blue three-spot stock as the gold and opaline, and no wild fish looks like one. No reliable source names the breeder, the country or the decade behind it, so treat it as a hobby line of uncertain origin. Stock is farm-bred for the ornamental trade.

Good to know

The white look comes from dark pigment cut back further than in the gold line, so the flank spots and most banding are gone. References class it as the white morph of the species rather than an albino form. Color depth varies within a spawn, so breeders sort for the cleanest fish.
