Care at a glance

Overview

Keep them in a group of six or more over smooth sand at 22 to 26 C in soft, slightly acidic water. They are peaceful and best kept with calm tankmates in a settled tank. Feed sinking pellets and small frozen foods such as bloodworm.

In the wild

Gomez's cory comes from the tri-border area of the western Amazon near Leticia. It forages over sand and leaf litter in soft, slightly acidic water. It is rarely collected, so it seldom appears in shops.

Good to know

This is a spotted, short snouted cory with separate dark spots on the head and upper body, a dark side band and a marked dorsal fin. The 2024 revision moved it to the genus Brochis as Brochis gomezi. It is one of the more rarely imported spotted cories and has no widely documented aquarium spawning record.

Did you know

Gomez's cory comes from the point where Colombia, Peru and Brazil meet and only turns up in the trade now and then.
