Overview
Keep Loreto cories in a group of six or more over smooth sand at 22 to 25 C in soft, slightly acidic water. They are peaceful and suit a quiet planted community. Offer sinking pellets and small frozen foods such as bloodworm and daphnia.
In the wild
The Loreto cory lives in soft, slightly acidic tributaries of the upper Amazon in Peru. It forages over sand and fine sediment in slow, shaded water. Groups gather near submerged wood and leaf litter.
Good to know
Males carry a tall, sail like dorsal fin with a long leading spine that stands well above the body. The 2024 revision moved the species to the genus Hoplisoma as Hoplisoma loretoense. That exaggerated dorsal fin separates it from other fine speckled cories.
