Overview

A group of six or more over sand suits it, with the clean, flowing water headwater corys expect. Sinking granules and frozen foods are taken readily. No aquarium breeding report has circulated yet. Its Paraguay-basin home also means it tolerates cooler nights better than Amazon species.

In the wild

Froehlich's cory inhabits clear headwater streams in Brazil's upper Paraguay drainage, over sand and fine gravel in flowing, oxygen-rich water at the mild end of tropical. Keep it at 22 to 26 degrees Celsius with pH 6.0 to 7.5, a sand floor, stones, and steady current.

Described in 2016 by Tencatt, Britto and Pavanelli and named for the Brazilian zoologist Otavio Froehlich, this species reaches about 6 centimeters and now stands as Hoplisoma froehlichi. Retail lists often spell it froelichi; the original description spells the epithet froehlichi, and that spelling has priority.
