Overview

A brisk, peaceful danio that suits a cooler-running community. Keep eight or more in a 90 liter tank with open swimming length and moderate flow. It pairs naturally with the other fish of the Inle plateau, such as the sawbwa barb and Inle loach, if you want a coherent regional tank. It is an unfussy eater and takes flake, granules and small frozen foods.

In the wild

Devario sondhii comes from the waters of the Shan Plateau around Inle Lake in Myanmar, at altitude where the water runs cooler and harder than lowland tropical streams. Keep it at 20 to 26 degrees Celsius and pH 6.8 to 7.8.

Good to know

Devario sondhii reaches about 8 centimeters and carries a fine horizontal line along a pale body. It is an egg scatterer that does not guard. Its restricted plateau range makes it uncommon in the trade, and the Inle basin fauna it belongs to includes a number of species found nowhere else.

Did you know

It shares its plateau with a lake full of one-of-a-kind fishes; Inle's basin is Myanmar's Galapagos, and this danio is part of the cast.
