Overview
Keep robust cories in a group of six or more over soft sand in a roomy tank, in soft to neutral water around 22 to 26 C. They are peaceful despite their size and need open floor to forage. Feed sinking pellets and larger frozen foods such as bloodworm.
In the wild
The robust cory lives in soft, slightly acidic tributaries of the middle Amazon. It forages over sand and leaf litter in slow, shaded stretches. As one of the largest cory type catfish, it needs open floor space.
Good to know
This is one of the biggest members of the group, a long, pointed snouted fish covered in small black spots with a mostly black dorsal fin. The 2024 revision moved it to the resurrected genus Brochis as Brochis robusta. Its size and snout shape set it apart from the many smaller spotted cories.
Did you know
The robust cory reaches around 8 cm, making it one of the largest cory type catfish in the hobby.
