Overview
Keep a school of six or more in a softwater setup with peaceful headwater company like corys and pencilfish. It feeds on crushed flake, micro granules, and small frozen foods. Like most recently described tetras, it is essentially unbred in captivity, so a spawning report would be new ground.
In the wild
The Krenakore tetra was described from headwater streams where the Tapajos and Xingu basins rise in Para, clear soft water over sand and stone. Keep it in clean, well-oxygenated water at 22 to 27 degrees Celsius with pH 5.0 to 7.0 and some current.
Good to know
Hyphessobrycon krenakore was described by Teixeira and colleagues in 2016 and reaches about 3.5 centimeters. Its markers are a vertically stretched shoulder blotch and a bold round blotch on the caudal peduncle, with mature males carrying tiny bony hooklets on their fins.
