Overview

Keep six in 75 liters over deep sand for its rooting snout. Feeding is straightforward: sinking granules and frozen foods. No aquarium breeding record has circulated. It shoals contentedly with round-nosed Bolivian corys, doing the deep digging while they work the surface layer.

In the wild

Seuss's cory comes from the Mamore drainage in lowland Bolivia, over sand in warm, gently flowing rivers. It is the long-snouted counterpart of the region's gossei cory. Keep it on deep fine sand with wood at 24 to 28 degrees Celsius and pH 5.8 to 7.2.

Good to know

Described by Dinkelmeyer in 1996 and named for the German aquarist Werner Seuss, this species reaches about 6.5 centimeters and is listed as Brochis seussi in the 2024 revision. It pairs an orange-tinted body with dark fin leading edges, and like many Bolivian fish it reaches the hobby only in occasional trickles.
