Overview

Keep six or more over sand in 75 liters. It eats prepared sinking foods and frozen without hesitation and mixes perfectly with other peaceful soft-water fish. Most trade fish labeled super arcuatus are this species; true breeding reports are scarce and follow the cool-change method. It makes the classic skunk cory look like the compact version of itself.

In the wild

Grant's cory ranges along blackwater and mixed-water streams of the Amazon-Solimoes system, sheltering in litter and sand shallows. It handles the usual soft, warm cory water: 23 to 27 degrees Celsius, pH 5.8 to 7.2, over fine sand with leaves and wood.

Good to know

Described in 2019 by Tencatt, Lima and Britto and named for Steven Grant, who first argued it was distinct, this is the larger, bolder-arched twin of the skunk cory. The 2024 revision lists it as Hoplisoma granti. The black arch runs from snout over the back to the tail base, heavier and longer than in true arcuatus, and adults reach about 6.5 centimeters.
