Overview
A nano schooler: keep six or more with other miniatures and feed crushed flake, micro pellets, and baby brine shrimp. It is quiet, tight-schooling, and easily bullied by boisterous fish, so choose calm company and it repays you with constant gentle activity.
In the wild
Weitzman's tetra inhabits small creeks in the upper Araguaia of Mato Grosso, shallow soft water in cerrado headwater country. A modest planted tank with gentle flow, 22 to 27 degrees Celsius, and pH 5.5 to 7.2 recreates it easily.
Good to know
Hyphessobrycon weitzmanorum was described by Lima and Moreira in 2003; the type specimen measured about 22 millimeters standard length, so adults run around 3 centimeters. The plural ending of the name honors two people at once.
