Origin
Native to peat swamp forests and streams of Central and West Kalimantan, Borneo, in acidic, mineral poor water.

Overview

A single pair does best in about 40 liters with a base of 45 cm, very soft acidic water at pH 4.5 to 6.0, and 23 to 27 C. Provide floating plants, leaf litter, and a tight lid. Feed small live and frozen foods rather than dried alone. Best kept as a single pair in a dedicated species tank.

In the wild

Betta uberis is a small coccina group betta from Bornean peat swamps. The water is soft, acidic, and stained dark, with plenty of leaf litter. It needs a shaded blackwater tank with dense cover and driftwood. Stable, warm, tannin rich conditions keep it healthy.

Good to know

Described by Tan and Ng in 2006, it is a member of the Betta coccina group of small red and black fighters. It is a bubble nester. Males can be aggressive toward one another, so groups need space and cover.
