Keep the water at 68 to 82°F (20 to 28°C) with a pH of 6.0 to 7.5. Banded leporinus are omnivores that lean toward plants, and they will eat soft aquarium plants. Feed vegetable foods such as blanched spinach and peas, plus quality pellets and the occasional meaty treat.

They are active and mostly peaceful, but they can turn nippy and territorial as they age, especially in cramped quarters. Give them space and robust tank mates. A single fish does fine, and a group should have at least six.
