Overview

One of the smallest Eriocaulon in the hobby, prized for nano scapes and foreground groupings. It needs intense light, CO2, and a fertile acidic aquasoil, plus full water-column dosing of nitrate, phosphate, potassium, and micros. It is slow to multiply and rarely available, so expect to buy small and wait for side shoots.

In the wild

A dwarf pipewort collected on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, where it grows in soft, mineral-poor water. It stays tiny, forming compact grass-like rosettes only a couple of centimetres tall that can be grouped into a lawn.

Good to know

This is an undescribed collector's Eriocaulon still traded under its locality name rather than a formal species epithet. Like others in Eriocaulaceae it forms a rosette from a central crown and draws heavily on an extensive root system. It is hardy permanently submersed once established but propagates slowly.
